Note: the donor of this gansey also donated the gansey with the tree of life pattern, knitted by her aunt who lived in Fortrose. She did not know the origin of this gansey, though it had been in the family for many years.
Colour: dark navy blue
Pattern: all over body and sleeves; hoofprint cables and moss stitch rib; pattern is not centred
Welt: single rib; 9cm (3.5 inches), followed by 2 purl rows before pattern starts
Chest: 94 cm (37 inches)
Gusset: approximately 11 cm (4.25 inches), with cable pattern on one side and rib pattern on the other on sleeve as well as body
Shoulders: 2 cm (0.75 inch) knitted each side of neck, front and back, cast off and sewn together
Sleeves: 56 cm (22 inches), fully patterned with same pattern as body; cuffs single rib 5 cm (2 inches) -
Neck: single rib 4.5 cm (1.75 inches); two-
